Romanian Gypsy Village

Welcome to the Buzescu village, located not far from Bucharest, Romania.

Gypsies have built here a true tasteless mini-Beverly Hills. As you’re driving down the main street you don’t know on which side to look first. Words are useless, let’s let the pictures talk.

The gypsies are good people, and I must say they are hard working people. They face discrimination everyday of their lifes from ye hillbillies. Some gypsies are rich because they work hard for it. yOU ARE ASHOLE MDY what do you know about Gypsies did you every talk to one? Maybe not you are so prejudice person. Mdy people like you make me sick.

  2. Ross Charles Says:

These shots are certainly of in your terms “tasteless” and decidedly garish buildings but I can see no evidence in them that they are “Romany Gypsy” homes – how does one come to know this?

I find it hard to reconcile such elaborate houses with the stereotypical, media-promoted view of gypsies as being mobile, on the road and having no real interest in permanent housing.

    Interested in any comments, thanks.

  3. Funny Guy Says:

I know this because I’ve seen the village myself and yes, it’s a gypsy village. Of course, not all gypsies have houses like these, only the ones that got rich quickly through various dodgy ways.

  4. Tara Says:

It’s so true, we drove through it on Saturday. So wierd, apparently one guy wrote his name across the top of his house with ‘the amazing’ after it. Even more bizarre is that there is a tradition that when a gypsy dies they have to burn their posessions and their home so they don’t actually live in the houses but live in a small room in the garden. Felt very unwelcome when we drove through it also.

  5. Bager Says:

Belive me they are gypsy houses.. i was there thats why i know.. hmm well and thats the nice part of such gypsy “town” .. like 60% of the houses are not finished becose there is no money anymore

  6. Deuce Says:

You have decided to make an opinion on a culture based on what you are familiar with. Look past your bland, tv laden, corporate driven reality. Understand that people do not see the world as you do. You are a dying breed of xenophobes that hopefully will be fully extinct in the next decade.

  7. Funny Guy Says:

Deuce: yeah, sure…we should protect thieves because of their “culture”. I invite you to take a walk or two through that village and a few other neighborhoods I’ll show you and then talk again about being a xenophobe.

  15. ana Says:

to those “smart” people that imagine owners of these houses working hard….think again! a brain-surgeon here can not get that kind of money , but you think an unskilled gypsy person can….what about other money sources? like human trafficking …children forced into begging or young girls kidnapped and sold for prostitution abroad….that kind of money builds this houses.

  16. bebex3 Says:

  17. david Says:

Molly, That would be great if it was the truth!!! but last week there was a documentary on the BBC here in UK. A local gypsy leader gave a tour of these houses. He explained most of the owners had paid? for people (including women and children) to go to other counties to beg and steal for them. They would send the money back to Romania where it would be used for loan shark activity and pay for houses like this to be built. In fact 3 of the largest houses (next door to each other) were owned by a Guy called Philip who was apparantly pretty much the first person to introduce sending gypsys to the rest of the world for the purpose of stealing money in the Mid 1980′s. I have sympathy with the Roma but not for people like this who exploit their own people and force them into a life of crime. Even the Gypsy leader was fearful that things had gone to far as other coutries have now started to hate and despise the Roma, even the honest and hard working ones.

  18. naz Says:

i also watched this documentary on bbc infact the individual who actually made the documentary was of romanian decent its sickening to see any one of any culture exploited, but the way this culture exploits women and children especially! it is shameful that its taking such a culture so long to intergrate and develop paticularly as its morals are based on what is wrong towards humanity let alone culture which human can justify children and women going to work which is currently involving theiving by innocence i dread to think what will become of these children!

  19. Kevin Says:

    ROMANIAN POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    praise the Lord Jesus Christ

  20. phizzyt Says:

Gypsies in this country are not hard working and not tax payers and not anything but parasites who sponge off everyone and then, hopefully, move on leaving a hideous mess for someone else to clean up at honest, hard working tax payers expense!
They are not genuine Romanies, they are a blight on society.

  21. one who knows gypsies and not via disney Says:

hello all, these are gypsy homes. I’ve seen them. anyone who’s ever been to eastern europe knows they don’t work. The jails are full of them because the vast majority know no laws but what their clan leader tells them. And now, they are here in Canada stealing from every social institution they can, just like in the countries they’ve emigrated from. I have no problem with the exception because they are productive members of society, its the norm that concerns me. Its my taxes, their livelyhood.

  22. Gypsy Joe Says:

    Heyal,

  23. Marxgypse Says:

    Hello Everyone,
I am a Romanian gypsy and have lived in the U.S for many years, have family in gypsy village in Transylvania. I was taught that we don’t steal, cheat, lie, beg, or morally, ethically abuse in any manner to get some where in life…we work hard with no regrets. Most gypsy are forced to be bad because of the long history of not excepting them as human being and forced to do what ever they had to do to survive, that breeds anger and more bad acceptance do to the generations of change with the more liberal mind set…you know the kind we have in the U.S…you owe me because you have it….Wrong way to think. Sadly the Government doesn’t care nor want to do the right thing. Until you live among the gypsy’s and are one you will never understand that there are those whom have a conscience and do the right thing, no matter what. I know there are many whom choose to not care and do bad and give all Gypsy’s a bad name, but there are those whom truly have honor, respect and financial success because of hard work. In every country there is those whom are discriminated against…look back in the History Of Romania and see where the blood line to royalty and the good of Christian gypsy’s, life and those with their own agenda to rid them selves of the ones they deemed unworthy is what has caused this wrong path of hatred, destruction of human lives. Look At German Hitler…he hated the Jews, gypsy’s and more. Black slavery around the world because of hatred, it is the countries responsibility to take care of all their people and treat people with decency and respect…do we not all bleed if you cut the skin, do we not all cry if we hurt, do we not all hunger if we starve and angered if wronged? Well from those life’s pains we can become a good person or a scorned bitter person. Sure be leery of any man but assumption of character can be a loss of a heart and another broken sole in society that will give birth to a new generation of more bitterness and build a tower of hatred. Most Romanian gypsy’s have lived a very depressing and hard life, the fortunate one get to live in the U.S and still fight for acceptance. I am judged by my looks not by my heart and hard work. I am proud of my heritage because of our resilience to survive and keep a loving heart, even when I have been denied friends, and love do to peoples stupidity. May everyone stop and educate themselves first before believing everything they hear or read. People fear what they do not know or understand……Hope everyone has a wonderful day.
    Mary Marx

    nice house.

  25. tim Says:

Wow, I drove through there, it is cool that it stands out as the largest town for miles outside of Bucharest. Yes, I have actualy stopped by talked to a couple of folks got a quick tour of one of the houses. the one I went to was not occupied as it was like a tribute… or that is how my interpreter said it… to an Idea. The guys building it actualy lived in another house that was outside the village. it was interesting as I was warned about gypsies everywhere then … the Rona (their prefered name…I think) guy that was talking to me via my interpreter, elbowed the interpreter and says to me in perfect american slang english ” no, its these jerks you need to watch out for” indicating my tour guide and interpreter ” they will bleed you dry.” at wich time there was a bit of a row and getting back in the car we headed to Brasov.

  26. Mike Says:

For all of you in favor of the gypsies: 1. Did you know 90%+ of them are NOT working? 2. did you know that in some (rare) cases they physically abuse they kids order for those to appear as tho they have natural disabilities when begging ? 3. Did you know that in every major country romanians are being insulted, abused and in some cases( e.g.:Italy) killed for the simple fact that gypsies have romanian citizenship? … I live in Romania and I’m trying my best not to be racist or xenophobe

  27. Reka Says:

    Hi,
I am a Hungarian girl from Roumania and I have just made a documentary film in United Kingdom about Scottish Travellers (gypises) they were a very nice family and the film is about prejudice towards gypsies. Only stupid people who are not intelligent think that all gypsies lie, steal and send their children to beg and that is how they build their palaces…Maybe some do.. I don’t know…but one thing I am sure that some of them must be working hard…Do not prejudice people!!! There are no English, Roumanian, Hungarian, German or any other people with different nationalities who do steal, kill etc and they are spending their days in prison?…Think people…and be honest to yourself…there are!!! And whatever is your own nationality there are nice and not nice people!!! So please stop the prejudice as those gipsies who are honest they don’t deserve it just like you wouldn’t deserve yourself any prejudice just because some of your fellow citizens with the same nationality as yourself done something bad and sit in prison. Think people!!! I am thinking to do a documentary about this issue in Buzescu about gipsies and there won’t be any prejudice but the truth! I will not support the gipsies who are not nice but I will protect the ones who are…

I am a Ludar gypsy, born and raised in america, I speak a Language close to romanian, I have been doing Blacktop Paving for Years, my two sons are in the business also, we work hard to earn a living, so do My relatives, we have nice homes and luxury cars, we made our Money the old fashioned way, We earned it, not all people are Bad, there are good and bad in every race, i am sure there are bad and dishonest Gypsys, but, every race has them, black people are type cast, but we have a black president, there must be a difference,

  29. Alia Says:

I am a Romanian-Canadian and I went through the Buzesti village last summer. Buzesti is not a gypsy village, after the Romanian revolution, gypsies with monies built all those villas but half of the village, where modest houses are, is just with Romanians. However, what I’d like to say as someone born in Romania is that I left the country because of the gypsies – the bad ones. Even though, I can clearly declare that gypsies are not all alike. It depends what tribe they belong to. Many became successful musicians (in France, Romania, US – see Gheorge Zamfir who’s a Romanian gypsy, Gypsy Kings who are Spanish-Gypsies, all the Flamingo dancers are Spanish-Gypsies), many are even music professors, they have music in their blood…The gypsies who grow and sell flowers or the Rudars are honest people, they have their own businesses, they are decent, work hard, they are polite BUT to be noted is the fact that these ones are not migrating, they are not Nomads. They are settled as any other nation. The ones we all hear bad news of, are those who never settle, they are migrating and they do not want to work. In order to survive, they steal, they kill and they move along. These are a plague not just for the other nations but for their own and unfortunately, in Romania during the communism they have NOT been discriminated but encouraged. In 1969 Ceausescu purchased and brought to Romania gypsies from Cehoslovakia and gave them monies to make children while they were not working. Everybody who wanted to work in Romania at that time could but nomad gypsies did not need to work as they were making one child per year and they were paid for it! It is unfortunate that because of them, all gypsies have a bad reputation. However, there is too much association lately between gypsies and Romanians and it is all because of the name gypsies prefer to use which is Roma. Travelling through Italy, we’ve been amazed to see the number of Italian gypsies while in Romania we saw just decent gypsies who were running their own flower shops like they always did. We were threaten in Milan by the Italian gypsies not in Bucharest. It is sad to see people talking about things they have no clue of. As a Romanian native, I know what I’m talking about: there are good and bad gypsies but either way there is no cultural or ethnic association between Romanians and Gypsies.
