Welcome to the Buzescu village, located not far from Bucharest, Romania.
Gypsies have built here a true tasteless mini-Beverly Hills. As you’re driving down the main street you don’t know on which side to look first. Words are useless, let’s let the pictures talk.

These shots are certainly of in your terms “tasteless” and decidedly garish buildings but I can see no evidence in them that they are “Romany Gypsy” homes - how does one come to know this?
I find it hard to reconcile such elaborate houses with the stereotypical, media-promoted view of gypsies as being mobile, on the road and having no real interest in permanent housing.
Interested in any comments, thanks.

I know this because I’ve seen the village myself and yes, it’s a gypsy village. Of course, not all gypsies have houses like these, only the ones that got rich quickly through various dodgy ways.

It’s so true, we drove through it on Saturday. So wierd, apparently one guy wrote his name across the top of his house with ‘the amazing’ after it. Even more bizarre is that there is a tradition that when a gypsy dies they have to burn their posessions and their home so they don’t actually live in the houses but live in a small room in the garden. Felt very unwelcome when we drove through it also.

You have decided to make an opinion on a culture based on what you are familiar with. Look past your bland, tv laden, corporate driven reality. Understand that people do not see the world as you do. You are a dying breed of xenophobes that hopefully will be fully extinct in the next decade.

Deuce: yeah, sure…we should protect thieves because of their “culture”. I invite you to take a walk or two through that village and a few other neighborhoods I’ll show you and then talk again about being a xenophobe.
